Mjölnir Leather Barrette

$20.00$30.00

Our unisex artisan Mjölnir Leather Barrette has been embossed with our Mjölnir design, based on the powerful and ancient hammer wielded by the Norse god of thunder, Thor. Of all symbols in the pantheon of Norse mythology, Mjölnir is probably the best known today. Associated with a heady mixture of chaos and consecration, of battle and blessing, Mjölnir is a veritable linchpin between the world of man and the celestial cosmos of the Gods of Asgard.

Made from hand-selected top-grain vegetable-tanned leather, this barrette comes in various finishes including Classic, Chocolate, and Bronze, and has been distressed to give it an Old World feel. The color may vary slightly due to the nature of the hand-rubbed stain.

Barrette will ship with a wooden hair stick to hold the barrette in place.

Description

About Mjölnir:
Mjölnir (from the Old Norse, pronounced “MIOL-neer”), a powerful and ancient hammer wielded by the Norse god of thunder, Thor. As the son of Odin the Allfather, Thor wielded his hammer in the manipulation of the heavens as well as the protection of humankind. Due to its power to convey the blessing of the Gods, Mjölnir was adopted by ancient Norse people as a tool of social “forging”: the use of a hammer to honor the marriage of a couple is well-documented in Viking society. Dating to at least the 9th century, Mjölnir was worn by Viking raiders and the people they conquered as a symbol of protection. Pendants featuring variations of the sacred hammer have been found throughout territories within the Viking world, including Scotland.
