The Red West Highlands Targe

A Highland Targe Reproduction by Mike Pruette

The West Highland Targe is a reproduction shield based on the extant targe found at the West Highland Museum in Fort William, Scotland.

I have reproduced this targe in both red and black.

The Red shield is 19 in. round and is 3/4 in. thich and weighs 10 lbs.  The front is covered in red vegetable tanned leather. It features a brass nail design in a geometric pattern. The brass boss in the center is hand hammered.

The Black shield is 19 in. round and is 3/4 in. thich and weighs 10 lbs.  The front is covered in black vegetable tanned leather. It features a steel nail design in a geometric pattern. The steel boss in the center is hand hammered.

The back is covered in fur and has adjustable arm straps. There are also brass rings at the top and bottom to facilitate wearing with a strap or hanging on the wall.

This targe is fully functional, but is intended as celtic art. It will be an heirloom that you will want to pass down to your children.

Please Note!

This targe has been sold already, but one just like it can be made for you. If you are interested in this targe please contact me for a delivery date estimate. Contact me at Mike@CelticLeatherworks.com.
